What is Bonsai (big B)?
Bonsai is a platform for recording artists to elevate the fan experience and turn a shared moment with a fan into something worth showing off. The Bonsai team previously founded RightsFlow (acquired by YouTube) and Source3 (acquired by Meta), which have helped generate billions of dollars for music creators over the last decade.
What is a bonsai (little B)?
A bonsai is a generative video that pairs a fan’s written question, an artist’s audio response, and generative one-of-one video art to form a unique piece of media. Fans ask an artist anything they’d like, and artists answer what they want, how they want. Audio makes it easy to record; packaging it as a video makes it easy to share.
Do I have to charge fans for bonsais?
No, you, the artist, set the price you would like to charge fans. That price can be $0, giving you the “fan engagement fun” of Bonsai, without the pressure of asking your fans for money.
If you do decide to charge for bonsais, your fans only pay if they receive an answer to their question (in the form of a bonsai) within a 14 day period. Bonsai earns a 5% fee to cover payment processing costs on any paid bonsais.
Do I have to bring fans to Bonsai?
We let you “meet your audience where they’re’ at”. Whether you want to leverage Bonsai’s Discord or YouTube integrations to source fan questions seamlessly and organically or you choose to share your Bonsai profile with fans across platforms like Instagram, Bandsintown, Twitch, Community, or Tiktok, we provide the connective tissue to collaborate with your superfans in new ways, no matter where they spend time online.
